The School is in premises purpose built in 1984, and overlooks the scenic St Ives Bay on the Cornish North Coast. Settled for thousands of years, the town had at one time a shipping line and nineteen tin mines, one of which, The Trenwith Mine, supplied minerals for Marie Curies experiments. St Ives now forms part of Penwith District. The town is about 300 miles from London, 70 from Plymouth and 8 from Penzance. The traditional industries of fishing and farming continue but have been largely overshadowed by tourism, which began with the coming of the railways, and the associated service industries. Facilities in the district include excellent communication by road and rail, libraries, local history museums, an open air theatre, three golf courses, art, pottery, music, beautiful scenery, water sport, fishing, sub-tropical flora, rambling, climbing The children mainly transfer from the adjacent Infant School at the age of seven and most transfer to St Ives School nearby, when they become year 7's.
